ABS GF10 Filament

Engineering filaments are designed for functional parts where mechanical performance is more important than appearance. These materials provide higher strength, stiffness, heat resistance, or chemical resistance than consumer-grade plastics, making them suitable for tooling, manufacturing aids, industrial components, automotive parts, and end-use applications.

ABS GF10 is a 10% glass fiber reinforced ABS filament engineered for strong, rigid, and dimensionally accurate functional parts. The addition of glass fiber increases stiffness, improves heat resistance, and reduces shrinkage and warping compared to standard ABS, making it ideal for manufacturing aids, jigs, fixtures, brackets, enclosures, and end-use components. ABS GF10 retains the toughness and machinability of ABS while providing the dimensional stability required for demanding engineering applications.

Print Settings

Engineering materials typically require higher printing temperatures and benefit from enclosed printers. Dry filament and hardened nozzles are recommended for fiber-reinforced materials to achieve the best print quality and mechanical performance.

  • Nozzle Temperature: 245–265°C
  • Bed Temperature: 90–110°C
  • Chamber: Recommended
  • Cooling Fan: 0–20%
  • Drying: 80°C for 2–4 hours if moisture is present
  • Nozzle: Hardened steel or ruby recommended >0.4mm

Technical Specifications

  • Tensile Strength: 68 MPa
  • Impact Strength: 8 kJ/m2 (Charpy)
  • Heat Deflection Temp (HDT): 110°C

Quality & Manufacturing

Every spool of Matter3D ABS GF10 is manufactured in Canada and laser measured throughout production to ensure consistent diameter, excellent roundness, and reliable print quality. Each production lot undergoes dimensional verification and print validation before packaging.

FAQ

Q: What is ABS GF10 filament?

ABS GF10 is an engineering-grade ABS filament reinforced with 10% glass fiber. The glass fibers increase stiffness, improve dimensional stability, reduce warping, and produce a professional matte finish. It is designed for functional parts such as jigs, fixtures, brackets, machine components, and industrial tooling.

Q: Why choose glass fiber reinforced ABS instead of standard ABS?

Glass fiber reinforcement makes ABS significantly stiffer while reducing shrinkage and warping during printing. The result is parts with better dimensional accuracy and improved performance in structural applications where rigidity is more important than flexibility.

Q: Does ABS GF10 require a hardened nozzle?

Yes. Glass fibers are abrasive and will wear standard brass nozzles over time. We recommend printing with a hardened steel, tungsten carbide, or ruby nozzle for the best long-term performance and print quality.

Q: Is ABS GF10 easier to print than regular ABS?

In many cases, yes. The glass fibers help reduce shrinkage and warping, making ABS GF10 more dimensionally stable than standard ABS. For best results, we still recommend printing in an enclosed printer with minimal cooling.

Q: Can ABS GF10 be machined after printing?

Yes. ABS GF10 machines exceptionally well and is an excellent choice for drill guides, machining fixtures, assembly jigs, inspection gauges, and other manufacturing aids that require drilling, tapping, milling, or sanding after printing.

Q: Is ABS GF10 suitable for outdoor use?

ABS GF10 offers good mechanical strength and heat resistance but is not specifically designed for long-term UV exposure. For outdoor applications, we recommend ASA or ASA GF10, which provide superior weather and UV resistance.

Q: What applications is ABS GF10 best suited for?

ABS GF10 is ideal for manufacturing jigs, fixtures, machine components, tooling, brackets, enclosures, automotive parts, robotic components, industrial prototypes, and other functional engineering parts where stiffness and dimensional stability are important.

Q: Is ABS GF10 stronger than regular ABS?

ABS GF10 is significantly stiffer than standard ABS and provides better dimensional stability and heat resistance. While glass fiber reinforcement greatly improves rigidity, standard ABS may retain slightly higher impact resistance depending on the application.
